Dio Oud: “Our third intifada will be cultural”
Nidal and Aboud are both 26 years old and long-time old friends – though they prefer to call each other brothers. They live on the slopes of Mount Ebal in Nablus, in the West Bank. Together they form the band Dio Oud, with the purpose of delving into the sonorities of their much-loved instrument, the oud. The friends make covers of numerous Arabic classics, and recently started to play their own tunes.

Tamenghast: Far From Algiers
For long, when speaking of this Algerian city I knew only by name, I pronounced it “Tamanrasset”. But when I went there for the first time, Boubekeur explained to me that the correct pronunciation was “Tamenghast”, a word which represents a kind of sand embankment, be it natural or artificial.
