Residents reinvent direct democracy in El Guettar Arriving in ElGuettar, Redeyef or Thala, first we are overwhelmed by the beauty of the landscape, the deserted or green mountains, depending on the proximity to the Sahara. As we enter these cities in south Tunisia we note immediately the total absence of infrastructure, paved roads, means of transport. There's just a medical clinic, a primary school and a few shops.
