The New Legitimacy of the Muslim brotherhoods in Egypt The last year and a half has been very exciting politically in the region. Several elections took place and in most of these elections the Islamist parties did very good: in Egypt, first, with the Muslim brotherhoods, in Palestine where Hamas won the elections, in Iraq, where a Shia-US-backed coalition is in power. In Syria, the government under pressure is reaching out to their own Muslim brotherhood, in Morocco, for the next parliamentary elections the PGD, a moderate Islamic party, is amongst the favourites.
